Room By The Sea

LOS ANGELES THEATRE AT ITS FINEST … it’s been so long since I felt this indelible feeling of magic while watching a play … creates that kind of whimsical effect Studio Ghibli films often imbue … Cooper Baldwin‘s score is just that good that it might be one of the best I’ve ever experienced … there is so much care and love that is placed all throughout this play” Edward Hong, Nerds of Color

STAGE RAW TOP 10 … Cole Massie’s performance as the Boy is expressive, sincere, and delightful to watch … Room by the Sea is a thoughtful tribute to accessible foundations and disabled dreams, and MAY JUST PAVE THE WAY FOR INDUSTRY INNOVATION IN MEANINGFUL INCLUSION.Socks Whitmore, Stage Raw

A JOY TO WATCH Room by the Sea offers a show that not only evangelizes accessibility to theater and art, it lives and breathes it … the shadow puppets [are] beautifully designed by Chu-Hsuan Chang … all the production elements are impressive” Anthony Gutierrez, LA Theatrix

A boy with a dream. A king with a secret. An island, shaped by grief and isolation.

Every day, the boy in the wheelchair sits by the window and dreams of flight, while his father – an architect – secures their tenuous place through service to the royal family. When the island’s king offers riches in exchange for a wonder – a structure larger on the inside than out – the architect begins to dream of more than just survival. But who is this impossible creation for? And what if his son has plans of his own?

By turns thrilling, lyrical, haunting, and intimate, John Guerra’s Room By The Sea is a new myth about invention & inheritance, about the harms we do in the name of love, and the bravery it takes to imagine a new world.
