Coin & Ghost is assembling a 5-person ensemble of Queer artists for a week-long workshop exploring the source material of Lysistrata through a modern, feminist lens that centers trans and gender non-conforming (TGNC) sex workers and their clients. We are looking for experienced performers, actors, movers, and theatrical devisors who are excited to tear the gender binary apart from within the inside of this deeply gendered classical comedy. Over the course of this six-day workshop, we will play with writing prompts, physical devising exercises, Greek chorus, ritual, and more, looking to generate the seeds of Roger Q. Mason’s new Lysistrata adaptation; the devising workshop will be led by director Carly DW Bones.

We are seeking a cast that reflects the actual diversity of the TGNC community. We encourage actors of all ethnicities, races, abilities, and body sizes to apply. We are particularly interested in casting folks with lived experience around the themes of this project. Coin & Ghost has signed on to the LA Anti-Racist Theatre Standards, which include aiming to have a majority BIPOC cast, crew, and staff, with attention paid to intersectional identities.

FOR AUDITIONS, PLEASE PREPARE:

  1. A one-minute monologue
  2. A second piece containing one minute of ANYTHING YOU LIKE. This could be another monologue – but it could also be a song, dance, poem you wrote, story you love telling, a moment of whimsy, rubik’s cube solution, tuba solo, magic trick, cocktail recipe, or whatever else you want to share with us. Like all Coin & Ghost productions, this workshop will help build toward a revolutionary, imaginative, collaboratively-built project, and we are interested in seeing what you choose to bring into the space.
