The Aaron Play

STAGE RAW RECOMMENDED … deeply poignant … like Titus Andronicus itself, Aaron combines horror and absurdity … a special nod to [Brian] Monahan as Guard One, who has the comedic chops to lighten what is a fairly dark story.” – G. Bruce Smith, Stage Raw

“Bloody good … A LIGHTNING BOLT OF A PLAY … Lemon’s Aaron is cunning and intelligent, every inch a political creature … the shape-shifting Rozo is splendid … the partnership between ISC and Coin & Ghost  has proven to be a winner.” – Evan Henerson, Broadway World

“8.5/10, Recommended! … quite inventive … HAS A SIMILAR COMEDIC CADENCE TO [PULP FICTION] … it’s a great show!” – Patrick Chavis, LA Theatre Bites

“Captivating and often hilarious … WE CAN’T HELP BUT BE DELIGHTED … All four actors turn in fantastic performances … the play is completely engaging, a lot of fun, and it leaves us with much to think on.” – Michael Doherty, Mostly Shakespeare

The Aaron Play picks up right where Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus left off: with its self-proclaimed villain, Aaron the Moor, buried up to his chest in earth and sentenced to death by starvation. Watched by two Roman guards and visited by spirits of the wrongéd dead, Aaron plots to escape and reunite with his infant son. Tragic, darkly funny, and terrifyingly relevant, this fresh riff on Shakespeare’s bloodiest play explores justice vs. vengeance, cycles of violence, and the cost of building an empire.

Featuring:
Bruce A. Lemon, Jr. as Aaron
Brian Monahan as Guard 1
William Gray Schierholt as Guard 2
Camila Rozo as Ghost of Tamora, Ghost of Lavinia, Messenger, and Junior

Developed with Independent Shakespeare Company as a part of their Iambic Lab 2025.
